I want to invite everyone to participate in another round of Around The Circle, Filling In The Blanks, an exercise first introduced to me by theater-maker Deb Margolin.
I invite you to imagine all of us who read this newsletter sitting in a circle in a room. I am imagining a room with a dark wooden floor, windows on one wall of the room, and black curtains covering the other walls. Behind the black curtains are mirrors. The pads of my fingertips touch the floor. We are sitting in a circle, looking at each other. I see people I know and don’t know, and so do you.
How do you feel looking around the room? Do you make eye contact with anyone? What does it feel like to pay attention to each other? Close your eyes and imagine it, take a second to meet these strangers inside your head, why not.
For each blank, I’ve filled in my answer. In the box that reads “Your answer,” I encourage you to type in your answer, starting with the beginning of the sentence and concluding with your own words. You should always be writing a full sentence. Write whatever comes to your mind first. All answers are anonymous.
If you’re not sure what to write, I encourage you to say the beginning of the sentence out loud, and finish it out loud, and then write down what you say.
I’ll share the Filled In Blanks with everyone who reads this newsletter next Friday, like I did with our Around The Circle, Filling In The Blanks. For your answers to be included, please complete the form by Wednesday, February 19th. There are ten questions.
Hold that circle of all of us in your mind’s eye.
