I would probably have flunked history if I had a teacher like yours! I was so often late for class in high school.

But this is a great essay that has me reflecting on confusion and sense making. I think we write during confusing times to try to make sense of them because our human brain evolved to grasp stories. We are not good at sitting in the uncertainty and directionless required by confusion.

But I also didn’t feel capable of writing much - despite being a writer - about the LA fires as we were going through them. I could barely comprehend by own feelings much less explain them to others. I had to sit in confusion because I had no choice.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It almost feels like enduring confusion is a muscle I think I need to build up. Like, it's okay and maybe even necessary to allow feelings and events to sometimes be incomprehensible, like you said.
